This kete whakairo has been created using fresh harakeke (flax) harvested from Maketu in the sunny Bay of Plenty. As it ages and dries, the kete will grow lighter in colour.  Muka Tūheihei references the somewhat messy appearance of the muka tassles. This kete also has muka kiwai (handles).
