This framed tauira is created using harakeke (flax) harvested from Waikawa Marae in Picton. The harakeke has been boiled to preserve it and was saved from the off cuts of a basket that was created during a wānanga at the marae for Ngā Taiohi o Wairau when they were preparing for the Kapa Haka Regional competition. The basket was created to hold their patu on stage.
