This piece is created using harakeke (flax) harvested from Maketu in the beautiful Bay of Plenty. The whenu has been boiled and dyed (blue) to preserve it. Onepū me te Moana has been created using the tuakana/teina style of weaving, where the blue whenu sits on top of the natural pieces. The name relates to the sea and sand, as depicted in the colours and represents the sea as it gently washes over the sand.
