This piece is created using harakeke (flax) harvested from Koutu on the shores of Lake Rotorua. The harakeke has been boiled and dyed (red) to preserve it. Wātea Kura can evoke the idea of a sacred or radiant new beginning — the sky opening with the deep reds of dawn.
