This piece is created using harakeke (flax) harvested from the Taylor River in Blenheim. The whenu has been boiled and dyed (orange) to preserve it. Karaka Karaka literally refers to both time and colour - orange time. Or if you like to have a coffee and kai at The Karaka Cafe, it could mean, it's time to go to the cafe!
