This kete whakairo has been created using harakeke (flax) harvested from the Taylor River in Blenheim. The flax has been boiled and dyed to preserve it, and has been created in the style of patikitiki. Atawhai speaks of 'kindness or caring for' - much like that which Papatūānuku gives to the harakeke along the banks of the awa.
