Tiketike

This piece is created using harakeke (flax) harvested from Koutu on the shores of Lake Rotorua. The harakeke has been boiled and dyed (red) to preserve it. The concept of tiketike is rich with meaning, often associated with height, prestige, elevation, and sacredness. It can be both literal and metaphorical, and is used in various contexts — from the physical world to the realms of status, spirituality, and excellence.
