Porotaka

This tauira is woven from whenu harvested in Koutu on the shores of Lake Rotorua, grounding the work in the local landscape. The rounded form - porotaka - speaks to balance, continuity and the flowing nature of raranga. The woven structure contrasts with the loose fibres below, acknowledging both the crafted form and the living harakeke from which it comes.
